The first celestial spectacle of the year will take place on March 14, 2025! On that night, you’ll have to take a good look at the sky to admire the first and most impressive lunar eclipse of 2025. Nicknamed the “Blood Moon” because of its reddish sheen, we tell you all you need to know about this not-to-be-missed astronomical event in the Toulouse sky.
How to see the lunar eclipse of March 2025 in Toulouse?
First of all, what is a lunar eclipse? As budding astronomers will know, it’s an astronomical phenomenon that occurs when the earth casts its shadow on the moon. With the sun no longer able to project its light onto the night star, the latter receives only orange and red waves from the earth’s atmosphere. It’s this mechanism, simplified here, that gives the whole thing its beauty. For your viewing pleasure, the Blood Moon will be a beautiful shade of red.
To make sure you don’t miss a moment of the show, we advise you to go to an open spot. This should preferably be high up and away from the city’s light pollution. The banks of the Garonne River or the heights of Pech-David hill are perfect places to observe this lunar eclipse! To admire the spectacle, you’ll need to get up at the crack of dawn (or stay up late). Visible from 3:57 a.m., its peak viewing time in France will be from 6:26 a.m. to 7:31 a.m. at dawn on March 14, 2025.
Don’t panic if you turn off your alarm! Another lunar eclipse will be visible on September 7, 2025. And this is one you won’t want to miss, as you’ll have to wait until 2028 to see one this spectacular!
