August promises to be a magical month over the Ville Rose. Like every year at the same time, the Perseid shower of shooting stars will cross the skies over Toulouse in a stunning celestial choreography. The phenomenon is expected to peak on August 12, 2025! A beautiful event to be admired with the naked eye, far from the city lights, for all the curious, dreamers and astronomy fans.
A celestial spectacle not to be missed: the Perseid shower of shooting stars will light up the skies over Toulouse.
As it does every summer, Toulouse is getting ready to admire a luminous ballet that crosses the night sky: the Perseid shower of shooting stars. This extraordinary phenomenon is caused by the Earth crossing the path of comet Swift-Tuttle. The latter leave behind them a trail of space dust which, on entering our atmosphere, ignites and becomes the famous shooting stars.
The observation period runs from July 17 to August 24. However, the most spectacular night is scheduled for the night of August 12-13, 2025. Enthusiasts will be able to count up to 100 shooting stars per hour – a perfect time to make wishes!
To get the best possible view of the phenomenon, go to areas with little light pollution, as is the case around the city. In August, no full moon is expected around the peak, which should further enhance visibility. Night owls beware: the best time to look at the sky is around 3am. That’s when meteor frequency peaks.

What exactly are the Perseids?
This shower of shooting stars is often described as the most spectacular of the year, and its scientific origin adds to the fascination. In fact, the debris comes from comet Swift-Tuttle, a celestial body measuring around 26 kilometers. As the Earth passes through this dusty zone, small fragments enter the Earth’s atmosphere at over 59 km/s, creating beautiful luminous trails.
For those who want to make the most of this event, it’s best to stay away from city lights. Sites around Toulouse, such as the heights of the Lauragais or the Pyrenees, are perfect for this. Less than an hour and a half’s drive from Toulouse, the black triangle of Quercy is also ideal for skywatching.
Take advantage of this opportunity to reconnect with nature and the cosmos. So get your deckchair and a little plaid ready, and open your eyes wide! The most beautiful shooting star shower of the year awaits you this summer just above Toulouse.
