This cosmic event in October is sure to please astronomy fans. On Tuesday October 7, 2025, the Ville Rose will be treated to its first Super Moon of the year. For astrology enthusiasts, this October full moon, under the sign of Aries , is an invitation to reflect and follow one’s intuition. But what is a supermoon? Where can you see it shining in the Toulouse sky? We tell you all about this star nicknamed the “Hunter’s Moon”.
Why is the October full moon called a Super Moon?
What’s the difference between a full moon and a supermoon? A supermoon occurs when the full moon coincides with the perigee, i.e. the point at which the Moon is closest to the Earth. At 5:48 a.m. on October 7, 2025, our satellite will be 361,458 kilometers from us. Compared with a normal full moon, it will appear some 14% larger and 30% brighter, although this difference will remain discreet to the naked eye.
This phenomenon is reinforced by what is known as the lunar illusion. When the moon is low in the sky, it appears larger and brighter, particularly during autumn full moons.
