Got your head in the stars? That’s a good thing. The Aurora Borealis, those enchanting curtains of light normally tracked as far away as Lapland, are about to dance over the rooftops of Toulouse. On December 20, 2025, the Port de la Daurade will become the setting for a grandiose visual spectacle. An ephemeral project by a daring Toulouse-based association, the show will transform the iconic square into a vibrant arctic landscape. It’s the must-see event of the Christmas vacations for Toulouse families.
The surprising origins of the Northern Lights in Toulouse
Did you know? The northern lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are the result of a collision between solar particles and the Earth’s magnetic field. But in Toulouse, you don’t need a strong solar wind to see these luminous wonders. The “Boréales” project owes its artistic and technical prowess to the association L’Agence de la Création. The installation will use state-of-the-art technology to recreate the magical atmosphere of the Far North, without having to brave the polar cold. Thanks to ultra-realistic lighting and sound effects, these artificial auroras will be transformed into veritable works of contemporary art.
Spectacular immersion awaits you at Port de la Daurade
Get out your diaries, the show will be presented on Saturday December 20 from 6pm to 10pm. And to make the experience complete, the association has thought of everything. Firstly, a soundtrack will accompany this sublime ballet of light, intensifying the impression of being under the Vault of Heaven. Secondly, access to the show is entirely free! The Port de la Daurade bathed in green, blue and violet lights… It’s the perfect event for a dose of magic before New Year’s Eve. Find out more.
