By now, we’re all familiar with Hoodmaps, the interactive, collaborative map that caricatures our Pink City. In a similar vein, some clever kids have had fun imagining the map of France from the point of view of the people of Toulouse. From North to South, East to West, no one is spared. Funny and grating at the same time, here’s what the Hexagon looks like from the point of view of the inhabitants of Toulouse.
Relous, Bourges, Cons… the map of France as seen by Toulouse residents spares no one.
As in the rest of France, in Toulouse we have our own particularities. Our words and expressions, our culinary specialties, but also our singular way of seeing the rest of France. The proof is in this map, which shows cities and regions from the very personal point of view of Toulousans.
Paris and the Paris region are home to the “cons”, while Bordeaux is home to the “Bourges”. The beaches to the north of Arcachon and its basin (such as Lacanau) are known as the “Bourges Sea”. To the south, towards Biarritz and Bayonne, and Perpignan and Montpellier, we simply find “sea and beaches”. Logical, since that’s where we go swimming in summer. The Pyrenees are known as “ski“, while the small enclave of Andorra is the place to buy “alcohol and cigarettes“.
In the same vein, the PACA region is home to “relous”. Northern France starts from the Limoges/Clermont-Ferrand/Lyon line. And not surprisingly, the whole of Brittany is designated by “pluie”… This unusual map of France can be found at cartesfrance.fr. Get your compasses ready – you could lose your bearings!
