Every year at the same time, the same question comes up. Will we be able to swim in the Garonne? In a surprise decision, Toulouse City Council has announced that the Garonne River will be transformed into a giant water park in which to swim all summer long. The initiative, dubbed “Garonne Splash“, promises to make the city even more attractive to tourists and locals alike as they battle against the heatwave. For the time being, the water park is scheduled to open on May 15, 2025, depending on the weather forecast.
Garonne Splash” water park attractions:
Water parks are synonymous with water games and attractions. Here’s what we know so far about the attractions we can expect to see in May 2025.
- River slides: giant slides will be installed along the quays, allowing visitors to slide directly into the Garonne.
- Wave pools: sections of the Garonne will be transformed into wave pools for maximum fun.
- Giant water features: fountains and water features will be installed to cool visitors on hot spring and summer days.
- Floating restaurants: Restaurant boats will be moored along the river, serving local specialities such as cassoulet and Toulouse sausages.
To ensure the safety of visitors, lifejackets will be distributed free of charge at the entrance. Swimming areas supervised by lifeguards will also be set up. Ideal for toddlers!
How do I get there?
Access to the water park will be free, but you’ll need to buy a special ticket – the price of which has yet to be announced – to use the slides and wave pools. So get your swimsuits ready!
Or don’t. Of course, this is all fictitious and intended to amuse you! As you may have guessed, it’s an April fool’s joke 🐟
