A highly anticipated opening on the outskirts of Toulouse
It’s official: on Thursday, January 29, 2026, this brand-new Lidl supermarket opened its doors in Muret, about 20 minutes south of Toulouse. Located at 27 Avenue de l’Europe, this place is unlike any other. And with good reason: with 1,840 m² of retail space spread over three floors, it is quite simply the largest storeof its kind in the world.
Designed as a new concept, this ultra-modern building replaces an old store that was demolished in 2025. After nine months of construction, the result is spectacular, with a fully glazed facade, contemporary architecture, and smooth traffic flow across several floors, a far cry from the classic image of discount stores.
Inside, regulars will find what makes the German brand Lidl so successful— low prices, a wide range of over 400 products, and a hot spot offeringfresh pastriesbaked on site throughout the day. The store is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday mornings until 12:15 p.m.
An eco-friendly building and a real boost to local employment
But what really sets this new location apart is its environmental commitment. The building runs on 100% green electricity and is equipped with 1,102 m² of photovoltaic panels on the roof. The green façade contributes to thermal insulation and landscape integration, while natural light is omnipresent thanks to the large glass surfaces.
In terms of parking, the store has 131 parking spaces, some of which are covered, with a permeable paving surface that allows rainwater to seep directly into the ground. Four charging stations for electric vehicles are also available, confirming the store’s commitment to sustainability.
Finally, this opening is also good news for local employment: 40 people now work in the store, including 20 new hires made specifically for this project!
