Just a few days before the opening of the Blagnac Christmas market, the largest in Occitanie, we thought we’d take you on a tour of another original getaway to experience the spirit of Christmas. The Carcassonne Christmas market promises an enchanted interlude just an hour’s drive from the Ville Rose.
The town of Carcassonne, famous for its majestic medieval city, transforms itself for the festive season, offering a magical experience for the whole family. The “Magic of Christmas” takes place here from December 3, 2025 to January 3, 2026, at several of the city’s most emblematic sites. Special mention must be made of the torchlight procession and the many events scheduled for this period. Here’s an overview of what’s in store.
The magic of the Carcassonne Christmas market and its attractions
During the festive season, the Place Carnot is transformed into a veritable winter village. That’s right, the Carcassonne Christmas market takes over, with its chalets full of original gift ideas. Those with a sweet tooth will be able to sample local produce and warm their guts with the inevitable mulled wine.
And don’t forget your gloves: a huge ice rink awaits you for a friendly sliding session. Nearby Square André Chénier is also home to a spectacular Ferris Wheel. If you’re not afraid of heights, climb up to admire Carcassonne illuminated from the sky. Children will love the attractions in Santa’s Park, including the Snow White Carousel and the P’tit Train des lutins.
A medieval weekend in the Cité for St. Nicholas Day
A World Heritage Site, the Cité Médiévale adds historical depth and unique appeal to this festive season! On the weekend of December 6 and 7, 2025, Carcassonne celebrates Saint-Nicolas by plunging visitors into the heart of the Middle Ages with an exceptional Medieval encampment. You’ll have the chance to learn about daily life in days gone by, with fascinating workshops such as leatherworking and coat-of-arms creation, while admiring impressive archery demonstrations and knightly combat. What’s more, a large medieval market will bring together some 30 artisans offering costumes, pottery and unique creations… The ideal place to find truly original gifts.

Last but not least, the highlight of the opening weekend is the traditional Marche aux Flambeaux (torchlight procession ) on Saturday December 6, a fund-raising event in aid of the Telethon. Imagine joining this magical procession, illuminated by hundreds of torches sold for €4 – all proceeds of which are donated – and entertained by medievalists in costume and music. Gathering begins at 5:30 p.m. for a 6:30 p.m. departure from Place du Prado, for a spectacular arrival on Place Carnot at around 7:30 p.m. Between historical immersion and Christmas attractions, this festive escapade promises to be a truly unforgettable experience!
