This summer 2025, the Pont Saint-Pierre will be invested by pedestrians and cyclists for the 4th year running. Rebuilt in 1987, this architectural pride of the Pink City will be taking a well-deserved break from polluting cars. The pedestrianization of the building will enable walkers to take full advantage of this incredible spot to admire the Garonne River. Toulouse Secret tells you more about what’s in store for pedestrians and motorists alike.
Pont Saint-Pierre reserved for pedestrians and cyclists
The Pont Saint-Pierre will be completely pedestrianized on June 2, 2025. Last year, the pedestrian version of the Pont Saint-Pierre, with its shades, chairs, tables and little bits of greenery, was much appreciated by Toulouse residents. Especially during the heatwave!
Once again this year, the pedestrianization of the bridge should prove popular, and perhaps lead to a definitive ban on vehicle access. In any case, this seems to be the wish of Jean-Luc Moudenc , the right-wing mayor of Toulouse.
Commemorating 150 years of historic Garonne flooding
More than a simple ban on cars, the city of Toulouse has decided to completely reclaim the Pont Saint-Pierre. To the delight of pedestrians and walkers, deckchairs and activities will be available throughout the duration of the project, which has been dubbed “Pont Saint-Pierre à l’heure d’été”. Umbrellas, seats, picnic tables, gazebos and litter garbage cans will be available until September 30, 2025.
And that’s not all. As part of the summertime pedestrianization of the Pont Saint-Pierre, a monumental fresco of over 2,000 m² will be created to mark the 150th anniversary of the historic flooding of the Garonne. The work, imagined by designer and scenographer Valentine Gadeau, will represent the river and will be created with the participation of Toulouse Métropole employees.
The fresco, entitled “tumultueuse Garonne“, aims to raise public awareness of the risk of flooding through a dynamic scenography, punctuated by urban games. The summery colors and movement of the water will evoke both the tranquility and power of the river, recalling the landmark event of 1875.
Installation of the fresco is scheduled for June 2, subject to favorable weather conditions. A beautiful work of art in prospect!
